Out with a Bang

Well, Romney's dropping-out speech sure sounds like it was a doozy. This paragraph has been getting a lot of attention:

If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or (Barack) Obama would win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign, be a part of aiding a surrender to terror.

No, he didn't drop out because he failed to win any major primary on Tuesday night. He did to fight the terrorists and their damned, dirty Democratic allies. That's the ticket! But this line, caught by Katherine Mangu-Ward, I think beats it:

Tolerance for pornography—even celebration of it—and sexual promiscuity, combined with the twisted incentives of government welfare programs have led to today’s grim realities: 68% of African American children are born out-of-wedlock, 45% of Hispanic children, and 25% of White children. How much harder it is for these children to succeed in school—and in life. A nation built on the principles of the founding fathers cannot long stand when its children are raised without fathers in the home.

As Mangu-Ward says, "By the logic of this paragraph, you download a two minute clip of girl-on-girl action, and the next thing you know there are little black babies popping up everywhere, wishing that George Washington was their daddy." That, my friends, is the power of the Internet. One click can lead to many, many Washington-idolizing black babies. At the very least, couldn't they wish Jefferson was their daddy? That'd be more plausible.

Speaking of babies, Joshua Green has firm, anecdotal proof that Hillary Clinton hates them. Or, at least hates his. Given as not one, not two, but three Clinton robocalls interrupted the younger Green's slumber, this seems pretty incontrovertible.

Romney actually bothers me less than McCain. He's less likely to escalate the war and attack Irsn. I don't think he really belives what he's saying; he's just pandering to the far right.
