Count me, like Matt Zeitlin and Megan McArdle, as deeply saddened and freaked out by Heath Ledger's death. Like Owen Wilson's thankfully unsuccessful attempt, it was most shocking because there was no way to have predicted it; Ledger wasn't a party animal, and didn't come across to the public as anything other than a well-adjusted, professional actor. And he had what looks like a incredible performance coming up in The Dark Knight. I'm sad for his separated wife, for his 2-year-old daughter, and most of all for him.

The details that I just read indicate that it was neither suicide nor standard drug addiction, rather that Ledger had been fatally careless with sleeping pills.

Fatal carelessness. What a stupid way to die.

Yeah, a Darwin Award. I hate when that happens. :-)
