Defending Lieberman

It's worth pointing out: Joe Lieberman is going to be a Senator from Connecticut at least until 2012. The polls are definitive. He's defeating his antiwar primary challenger, Ned Lamont, by 65% to 19%. Lamont can't possibly close a 46% gap. No candidate can. So Lieberman, facing no serious challenger in the general election, will be reelected. And that's not a bad thing.
Don't misunderstand; Lieberman got Iraq, and gets the "war on the terror", fundamentally wrong. But that doesn't mean he's not a real Democrat. He is. He's pro-choice, anti-tax-cuts, pro-gay, pro-immigrant, and anti-Social Security privatization. He's a centrist, to be sure; he's not for single-payer, and is strongly in favor of vouchers and free trade. But compared to, say, Ben Nelson or John Breaux, he's positively progressive.
