Andy Sullivan, a great journalist and commentator, calls publishing an excerpt from that racist manifesto as editor of the New Republic "one of my proudest moments in journalism". Look, it's one thing to be proud of creating public debate about an important topic. It's quite another to call the book, as Andy does, "one of the most insightful and careful of the last decade". The book is, to put it lightly, complete and utter B.S. on the level of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion. It's scientifically wrong. Most of the research quoted in the book was funded by the Pioneer fund, a hate group. I think it's fair to say that the book was an intellectual exercise in racist propaganda. Andy should not be proud of it in the slightest.
